These programs meet the highest standards for proven health programs for older adults. That’s great news because they have:

  • Been shown to improve health and well-being, or help prevent illness, injury, or disability in older adults.

  • Been carefully tested using scientific methods.

  • Worked well in different communities, not just one place.

  • Easy-to-use materials that are available to the public.

StrongBodies Classes

Strength training has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, and arthritis. Strength training also increases strength, muscle mass, and bone density.

Your Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Chippewa County has been partnering with the ADRC of Eau Claire County to bring you opportunities to participate in a variety of healthy living workshops. We would eventually like to offer our own classes so we can make it convenient for people living in all areas of the county. Luckily, all of these are now virtual so if you have access to the internet or you have a smart phone, there is a good chance you can participate! We have also started partnering with UW-Madison Extension to offer more of these classes.

The ADRC’s Prevention Programs meet the highest-level criteria for evidence-based Health Promotion Programs for older adults. This is great news because they have:
• Demonstrated to be effective for improving the health and well being or reducing disease, disability and/or injury among older adults.
• Undergone experimental design.
• Fully replicated in other community sites.
• Dissemination products have been developed and are available to the public.

Upcoming classes:

April 12 - June 10, 2021. Mon & Wed 9am, or Tue & Thu 9am. PDF flyer here.
This series is offered by UW-Madison Exension Health and Well Being and Foodwise Program.
It's an evidence based-strength training program. No experience is necessary, it's free, and it's statewide. We will also have time to learn and socialize following the training each day. Questions: terri.kolb@wisc.edu
