Our goal at the ADRC of Chippewa County is to help people stay in their own homes as long as they can. Meals on Wheels is one of the programs that can help! The program provides hot nutritious meals to seniors who struggle preparing healthy meals in Chippewa County. The program relies on volunteers to deliver meals through out the county.
1. What does a Meals on Wheels delivery entail?
A volunteer picks up meals at a designated location. You will receive the names and address of those that get a meal. You will deliver a hot, nutritious meal to those that are homebound and have difficulty preparing meals. Volunteers make sure the food is delivered safely by following delivery guidelines. Volunteers also provide socialization and a daily check.
2. What are the benefits for volunteering for meals on wheels?
- Feel good knowing you are helping others by delivering a hot nutritious meal. Many participants cannot provide adequate food for their health.
- Provide socialization to those that are homebound. For many, volunteers are the only people participants see and talk to.
- Help people stay in their own home. This program often leads to other services that can help people stay and flourish in their own home. Volunteers can be the key to the connection.
3. What is the time commitment?
- Most meals are delivered between 11am-12pm Monday thru Friday, some a little longer depending on the route. No weekends or holidays.
- We have volunteers that deliver once a week, a couple times a month, as a fill-in, or even seasonally; like summer or winter. Businesses, organizations, and churches often form a group and take turns delivering. We know everyone is busy and will work with what fits your schedule.
4. Is there any mileage reimbursement?
Volunteers use their own vehicle and may choose to be reimbursement mileage for the delivery route. A W-9 form will be required if you choose to claim mileage reimbursement. If you choose not to request reimbursement, be assured that those dollars stay in the Meals on Wheels program thereby allowing us to serve more meals.
5. How to get started?
An application and background check must filled out and sent to the Senior Nutrition Program Supervisor. After the application and background check is approved, you will be contacted to schedule an orientation. There are a few options to submit your application:
- Option 1: Submit Volunteer Paperwork securely online.
- Option 2: Print the Volunteer Paperwork, handwrite information, sign and mail to our office.
- Option 3: If none of the above options work for you, just let us know and we will be happy to provide you with the paperwork via mail or arranged pick up.
Completed paperwork and/or questions can be directed to:

If you want to volunteer but it doesn't work in your schedule - don't worry, we get it. Life can be busy. There's other ways to support this program. This is a donation-based program and anyone can contribute. Another way that would be tremendously helpful would be to spread the word that we need delivery drivers.
