What is Meals on Wheels? Am I eligible?
The Meals on Wheels program provides a hot nutritious meal Monday through Friday* to persons who are aged 60 and over, are unable to prepare adequate meals on their own, and are temporarily or permanently home bound, and live outside the city limit of Chippewa Falls (inside city limit can call Mobile Meals at 715-723-0486). There is no income or asset limit. You don't need a doctor's order for this meal service.
It's more than "just" a meal. It also provides a daily well-check on individuals. If there is concern when delivering meals, we will reach out to the designated contact. Expectations for receiving a meal delivery will be agreed to in advance.
*Due to limited volunteer drivers, some areas have an alternative delivery schedule, and some routes have a full wait list.
How do I pay?
The suggested donation is $5.50 per meal (updated 8-1-2025). Donations are confidential and no eligible person is denied a meal due to the inability to contribute. We ask all participants to give a contribution within their means. A donation request letter will be mailed monthly with the suggested donation amount, which is based on how many meals were received for that month.
How do I get started?
As of 06/2025, all of the following routes are full and we cannot add new participants unless we get more volunteer drivers in these areas: Stanley, Boyd, Cadott, Bloomer and New Auburn. The following routes are closed due to being full and having limited funding: Lake Hallie, Lake Wissota, two Chippewa Falls routes.
Feel free to submit a referral for Meals on Wheels (below) or if you prefer to know if there's availability for the wait list first, then call the Senior Nutrition Program Supervisor at 715-738-2590. Please understand that submitting the referral doesn't guarantee that you will start receiving meals immediately, or at all. We can suggest other meal delivery paid subscriptions such as Mom's Meals or Homestyle Direct.
The next steps would be us reaching out to the individual to schedule their nutrition assessment, which confirms eligibility and identifies other unmet needs or concerns. A home visit may be required. Finally, the new participant will be given information about food safety, delivery instructions, expectations, and other program information.
Who can make a referral?
Anyone can fill out the referral form on behalf of the interested consumer, but please confirm they are willing to receive meals and that the availability isn't guaranteed by just submitting a referral.
Closures Due to Weather:
Senior Nutrition Programs may close due to weather. Check the news for a complete list of business closures. However, note that even if "Chippewa County Senior Centers" are closed, that doesn't necessarily mean all of our Senior Nutrition programs are closed. It must specifically list "Chippewa County Senior Dining" and "Chippewa County Meals on Wheels" on the closure list. Typically, we follow the school district closures, but with the introduction of remote learning days, please be diligent about checking the list of program closures on the news. As always, feel free to contact us with questions.
