Mental Health Training
QPR
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide.
Just as people who are trained in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying "Yes" to save the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor.
QPR covers:
- Common myths and facts about suicide
- Warming signs & risk factors of suicide
- Tips for asking the “suicide question”
- How to persuade suicidal individuals to get help
- Ways of referring at-risk people to resources
This training is approximately one hour long and is intended for groups of 30 or fewer. After a suicide death, it is recommended to wait at least 90 days before holding a training, with the best practice being a six-month delay.
Shaping Destiny: Overcoming Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) by Building Youth Resilience
This 30-minute film takes a close, sensitive look at how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) impact kids’ mental health and how youth can build resilience.
Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. After a suicide death, it is recommended to wait at least 90 days before holding a training, with the best practice being a six-month delay.
